A 16-member squad of the Pakistan Disabled Team for the tour of England was announced by chief selector Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA) and first-class cricketer Iqbal Imam with the approval of former Pakistan captain and president PDCA Rashid Latif on Thursday.
Pakistan will be participating in the Tri-nation Disabled Cricket series to be held in Worcestershire, along with hosts England and Bangladesh from July 8-13.
The players were selected after taking part in a three-day camp in Rawalpindi stadium which was overseen by Imam and head coach Sabih Azhar along with the other members of selection committee including Mohammad Jawed, Javed Asraf and secretary PDCA Amiruddin Ansari.
The chief selector speaking at a press conference at PCB Regional Academy, National Stadium on Thursday said: “The selection of Pakistan disabled team was very difficult because Pakistan have a bunch of talented players. But the best players from the recently held camp were selected.”
"There are both spinners and fast bowlers in the squad," he added. "And we will take a strong middle order with openers as that in the T20 format."
A two-day conditioning camp for the selected Pakistan disabled cricketers will commence at the PCB Regional Academy from May 12, while the training camp will be held after Eidul fitar and the team will leave for England on July 5.
The honorary secretary PDCA Amiruddin Ansari said: “We are very proud to announce that Pakistan is the pioneer of disabled cricket with England and now many Test-playing countries are regularly playing this unique cricket. After the big tri-series July in England, the first ever world cup for the disabled cricketers scheduled next year that will also be held in England.”
