Pakistan knocked out of Women’s World T20

Pakistan Women’s team were knocked out of the ongoing ICC Women’s World T20 after losing to New Zealand by 54 runs on Friday.

Despite the win, New Zealand were unable to secure semi-final berth as they had lost their previous two matches.

In the Group B match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first. Sophie Devine (32) and Suzie Bates (35) provided New Zealand with a solid start of 59 runs but good bowling towards the back end of the innings by Pakistan restricted them to 144-6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Off-spinner Sana Mir and medium-pacer Aliya Riaz claimed two wickets each.

Chasing a target of 145 runs, Pakistan were bundled out for just 90 runs in 18 overs. Spin duo of Amelia Kerr and Jess Watkin — who was also declared the player of the match — starred with three wickets each.

For Pakistan, captain Javeria Khan was the only notable performer with 36 runs off 23 balls.

From Group B, Australia Women and India Women have already qualified for the semi-finals after winning their first three respective games.
