Pakistan likely to test new opening pair against Australia

Following a flop show of openers in the last two Test series, Pakistan cricket team management is keen on testing a new opening pair against Australia.

According to the Daily Express, Mohammad Hafeez and Imamul Haq are likely to be Pakistan’s next choice as opening pair for the upcoming two-Test series against Australia.

It must be noted that Pakistan’s last opening pair of Azhar Ali and Imamul Haq failed to make an impact during the Test series against Ireland and England — where their best opening stand in six innings was just 20 runs.

Hafeez — who was not picked in the initial squad — was called by the team management following his good form with the bat in the domestic cricket. He joined the team in Dubai on Tuesday. However, he didn’t participate in the practice session due to jet-lag. The 37-year-old will take part in the practice session today on Wednesday.

If Imam and Hafeez play as openers, then Ali will bat at his original position of number three.

Pakistan will face Australia in the first Test at the Dubai International Stadium from October 7.
