Pakistan likely to face Australia in semi-final of T20 World Cup

Pakistan is likely to face Australia in the semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

According to tournament regulations, the winner of a group will face the runner-up from the other. Pakistan are at the top in group 2, while Australia finished at second place in group 1.

Although, if Pakistan loses to Scotland and New Zealand defeat Afghanistan then Pakistan might slip to second position in the points table and end up facing England in the semis. However, as things stand, that scenario is unlikely.

Meanwhile, South Africa have been eliminated, due to poor net run-rate, after they failed to restrict England to 131 or less while defending 190 in their final group stage match.

The 2009 champions, Pakistan, have taken on all comers with aplomb at the event, winning all four games including a crushing victory over rivals and pre-tournament favourites India in their opener, to seal their spot in the last-four stage with eight points so far.

The Men in Green will face Scotland on Sunday, which will be their final group stage match.

Pakistan have won all its three T20Is against Scotland, once in the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007 and two in Scotland in 2018.

On the other hand, Australia won four out of their five games in the group stage with their only defeat coming at the hands of England.
