The Pakistan U19 Women’s cricket team, led by captain Komal Khan, arrived in Malaysia on Saturday 11 January to compete in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled from January 18 to February 2.
The team was warmly welcomed at Kuala Lumpur Airport, with fans chanting “Pakistan Zindabad” and wishing the players success in the tournament.
Captain Komal Khan expressed confidence in her team’s preparation, stating, “The players are highly motivated, and we are determined to perform well in the group matches.”
Head coach Mohsin Kamal highlighted the rigorous training the players underwent, emphasizing that the team’s performance will be significantly improved compared to the Asia Cup. “This squad is well-prepared and ready to showcase their skills,” he remarked.
The Pakistan team will rest on their first day in Malaysia before beginning practice sessions to gear up for their group stage matches. Placed in Group B, Pakistan will face the USA on January 18, England on January 20, and Ireland on January 22. All matches will be held at the JCA Oval in Johor.
The tournament’s format includes 16 teams divided into four groups, with the top three from each group advancing to the Super Six stage. Points, wins, and Net Run Rate (NRR) from group matches will carry over to the Super Six stage, where each team will play two matches. The top two teams from each Super Six group will progress to the semi-finals on January 31. The final will be played at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on February 2.
