Pakistan’s blind cricket team made history by winning their first-ever Blind T20 World Cup, defeating Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the final held on December 3, 2024, in Multan.
Bangladesh batted first and scored 139 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Areef Hussain led the way for his team with a top score of 54 runs. Pakistan’s bowlers, including Babar Ali, who took two wickets, and Mohammad Salman and Matiullah, who grabbed one wicket each, kept the Bangladeshi batters under pressure.
Chasing 140, Pakistan’s opening pair made the victory look easy. Nisar Ali stayed unbeaten with a match-winning 72 runs, while Muhammad Safdar added an impressive 47 not out. Their partnership sealed the win in just 11 overs, securing a dominant 10-wicket victory for Pakistan.
This triumph marks Pakistan's first Blind T20 World Cup title since the tournament began in 2012. The previous three editions were all won by India, making this a historic moment for Pakistan cricket.
In earlier tournaments, Pakistan had reached the finals but lost to India each time. This year, playing on home soil, the team turned the tables and claimed the prestigious title.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised the team for their outstanding achievement.
"The players demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the tournament and achieved the honour of becoming T20 World Champions," Naqvi said.
He commended the brilliant batting efforts of captain Nisar Ali and Muhammad Safdar in the final and acknowledged the dedication of the team’s management.
"The blind cricket team showcased remarkable dedication and teamwork in every match of the tournament," Naqvi added.
The PCB chairman expressed hope that the team would continue to perform with the same passion and achieve more success in the future.
