PCB launches three new Champions tournaments for 2024-25 domestic season

The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the addition of three new tournaments, branded as the Champions One-Day Cup, Champions T20 Cup, and Champions First-Class Cup, to its Men’s Domestic Cricket Season 2024-25.

These competitions will complement existing fixtures such as the National T20 Cup, Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, President’s Trophy, President’s Cup, and HBL Pakistan Super League 2025, spanning from September 1, 2024, to August 5, 2025.

In total, the PCB plans to organize 261 matches across eight senior men’s tournaments during this period. This includes 131 first-class matches across three events, 40 50-over matches spanning two events, and 97 T20 matches distributed over three events.

Additionally, the PCB will conduct 11 development and pathway tournaments separately, alongside fixtures for the Pakistan Shaheens and Pakistan U19 teams.

Key features of the newly introduced Champions tournaments include participation by five teams—Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, and Wolves—in each event, contested in a double-league format.

Approximately 150 top-performing domestic players from the last three years, along with centrally contracted players, will be eligible for selection.

Each team will benefit from guidance and potential ownership by former Pakistan cricket legends, serving as mentors. The support staff for each side is expected to include experienced coaches, physiotherapists, analysts, and other key personnel.

Furthermore, each team will have access to dedicated Regional High Performance Centres in Faisalabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Sialkot for training purposes.

Corporate sponsorship, media partnerships, broadcast rights, and ticket sales are anticipated to provide additional revenue streams for these tournaments.
