PCB offers national players another chance to pass fitness assessments

In a new round of fitness tests, several national cricketers will get another chance to prove their fitness levels.

According to a media report, the tests are set for September 30, and around 8 to 10 players will take part.

Some of the players previously missed their fitness assessments, while others either failed or were borderline cases in the last test. To ensure fairness, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to give these players another opportunity, making sure no one is penalized solely based on fitness issues.

One key aspect of the test is the 2-kilometre run, where the players have been asked to improve their performance.

Additionally, the PCB recently announced plans to hire a consultant in Sports Medicine to manage the fitness issues of cricketers at both domestic and international levels. This decision comes as a response to the challenges of diagnosing and treating injuries that have affected player performance.

The board has posted a public job advertisement, seeking candidates with expertise in Sports Medicine. The chosen consultant will diagnose and treat player injuries and oversee their rehabilitation. The role also involves working closely with physiotherapists and trainers from both national and domestic teams to maintain the players' fitness.

Candidates need to hold an MBBS degree, have at least 10 years of relevant experience, and understand the sports environment. Applications are open until October 10.

This hiring process is crucial as the PCB's director of medical position has remained vacant since Dr. Sohail Saleem's resignation, and the board is eager to fill this gap to better manage the fitness needs of its cricketers.
