PCB postpones Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, here's why

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a significant announcement, postponing the upcoming first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, originally scheduled to commence on October 20.

This decision comes amidst uncertainty surrounding the country's premier domestic cricket tournament, with final details for the current season still up in the air.

Sources within the PCB revealed that the board's domestic department is awaiting approval from chairman Mohsin Naqvi on several crucial matters, including the revised dates for the tournament. While the PCB is expected to announce the new schedule shortly, this postponement marks yet another disruption to the domestic cricket calendar.

Earlier, the Under-19 domestic tournament was also suspended after just one day of play. In light of the ongoing challenges, sources indicate that the domestic department has instructed departmental teams to prepare for the Presidents Trophy, a backup tournament, should the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy face further delays.

"As a contingency, departments have been asked to be prepared," said a source.

The Presidents Trophy, a first-class tournament for departmental teams, is currently scheduled to begin on January 6. If delays in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy persist, insiders suggest that the cricket board may prioritize the Presidents Trophy.
