The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has placed the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the bottom of its priority list, leaving franchise owners frustrated over the prolonged stagnation in league matters. With the recent appointment of Salman Naseer as the head of PSL affairs, franchise owners are optimistic about potential improvements.
According to sources, team owners recently sent a joint letter congratulating Salman Naseer on his new role and expressed their commitment to working collaboratively. The letter also highlighted several pressing issues requiring immediate attention. Owners urged Naseer to engage with the England and other cricket boards regarding player availability for PSL, particularly in light of recent developments.
Notably, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) hinted at restricting its players from participating in overseas leagues, excluding the IPL, during their domestic season. Meanwhile, the IPL auction is set to take place next week in Saudi Arabia, with player lists already released.
Franchise owners have requested the PCB to finalize arrangements for the PSL draft and set dates for the 10th and 11th editions of the league. It is worth mentioning that the 10th edition of PSL is expected to clash with the IPL schedule, raising concerns about competition for viewership and player participation.
The letter also reminded the PCB of its earlier promise to establish PSL as a separate company. Franchises have emphasized the need to discuss team valuations and address financial matters to ensure the league's sustainability and growth.
