Pakistan’s former wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif has slammed the rule applied in cricket matches that allow a free hit to the batsman in case the bowler oversteps his mark and delivers a no-ball.

The 52-year-old believed that the free-hit rule opened the game up to corrupt practices.

“Free hit on No ball, worst ever rule/law in cricket. Huge window for individual (corruption) act, but effect all team,” Rashid tweeted.

Bowling a no-ball can change the complexion of any cricket game in the modern era. A free hit allows the batsman to play any stroke without the fear of getting out. A batsman can only be run-out during a free hit.
