Revival of Indo-Pak cricketing ties marred by sexual harassment allegations

Revival of Pakistan and India cricketing ties have once again taken a back seat after sexual harassment allegations on Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rahul Johri prevented any progress during the recent International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Singapore.

Johri did not attend ICC meeting which consequently meant that there was no formal contact between BCCI officials and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani.

According to reports, Mani had expressed desire to meet the BCCI CEO and discuss Pakistan-India cricket ties during the ICC meeting. However his plans for holding the talks were shattered, when BCCI refused to send Johri for the meeting amid sexual harassment allegations on their CEO.

Instead of Johri, Amitabh Chaudhary — acting secretary — was sent to Singapore to represent BCCI in the meeting. Mani did not have any discussion with Chaudhary as he lacked knowledge and experience about cricket ties between the arch rivals, according to the sources.

PCB chairman also met with his counterparts from various different boards but he failed to make any progress regarding revival of international cricket in Pakistan.

Furthermore, during the meeting the cricket’s governing body also raised concerns on increasing numbers of leagues and directed all cricket boards to allow their players at their own risk.

It is worth to mention here that Mani hasn’t issued No Objection Certificate (NoC) to Pakistan players for T10 League after questions were raised about its credibility.
