Salman Butt backs PCB’s stance against hybrid model for Champions Trophy 2025

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has voiced strong support for the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) opposition to the hybrid model proposed for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

The ICC has scheduled a board meeting on November 29 to discuss the future of the eight-team tournament, which is set to take place in Pakistan during February-March next year. Among the options on the table are adopting a hybrid model, relocating the event, or postponing it altogether.

Speaking to the media, Salman Butt called PCB’s stance “fair” and emphasized Pakistan's right to host the entire tournament on home soil.

“PCB's stance regarding the Champions Trophy is correct. The entire Champions Trophy should be in Pakistan, it is our right,” Salman said.

“As former cricketers, we should back the PCB’s stance,” he added.

Salman also criticized India for its refusal to tour Pakistan, pointing out that cricketing ties should be reciprocal.

“If we can tour India, then they should also visit Pakistan,” he remarked. “We will welcome India here. If the whole world can visit Pakistan, then so can India.”

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also weighed in on the matter earlier today, denouncing India’s stance as “unacceptable” and stressing the need for equality in cricketing ties between the two nations.

“Our stance is very clear,” Naqvi said. “It’s not acceptable that we play cricket in India, and they don’t play cricket here. Whatever happens, it will be on the basis of equality.”

Naqvi further assured that the PCB is in constant communication with the ICC and will ensure the best outcome for Pakistan cricket.

The ICC’s upcoming decision will determine whether the Champions Trophy stays in Pakistan or undergoes significant changes in format or location.
