Kamran Ghulam shines on debut as Pakistan stabilizes innings against England

Debutant Kamran Ghulam stole the spotlight on Day 1 of the second Test against England at Multan Cricket Stadium, scoring a brilliant century to help Pakistan recover from a shaky start. Coming in as a replacement for Babar Azam, Kamran's impressive 118 runs steadied the hosts, who ended the day at 259 for 5 after opting to bat first following a successful toss.

Pakistan's innings began on a troubling note, losing two early wickets within the first 40 minutes, with the scoreboard reading just 19 for 2. Abdullah Shafique was the first to go, bowled out by Jack Leach for just 7 runs, followed by the dismissal of captain Shan Masood, who fell for a mere 3 runs after miscuing a delivery into the hands of Zak Crawley at short mid-wicket.

Facing pressure, Kamran Ghulam showed remarkable poise in his debut, hitting Leach for a six over his head and confidently navigating through England's bowling attack. Partnering with Saim Ayub, who contributed 77 runs with seven fours, Kamran crafted a solid recovery for the team. The duo played with patience and aggression, steadily building the innings before lunch and reaching the three-figure mark.

Kamran completed his century in 192 balls, striking nine fours and a six, making him the 13th Pakistani batter to achieve this milestone on debut. He joins an illustrious list of players, including Javed Miandad, Younis Khan, and Abid Ali, who have also made memorable starts in their Test careers. His innings finally ended when he was bowled by Shoaib Bashir.

As Day 1 drew to a close, Mohammad Rizwan stood firm at the crease with 37 runs, alongside Salman Ali Agha, who added 5 runs. Pakistan will look to build on their foundation on Day 2 as they aim to bounce back from their previous defeat in the opening Test, where they were outclassed by England.

The match saw the return of England's captain Ben Stokes, who missed the first Test due to a hamstring injury. His presence in the squad is expected to bolster England's performance, and he proved to be a handful with his swing bowling, even though he could not claim a wicket on Day 1.
