Shaheen responds to Akram's criticism with shush celebration after PSL fifty

Lahore Qalandars' captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, made headlines with a stunning performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match against Quetta Gladiators on Sunday.

However earlier, former cricketer Wasim Akram, questioned Shaheen's all-rounder status,  after he promoted himself ahead of David Wiese and Sikandar Raza in the match against Karachi Kings on Saturday and ended up scoring just 1 off 3.

"Shaheen needs to be told that he hasn't become an all-rounder yet. You have world-class hitters in your team, whose job is to come and score runs in the last three overs - Wiese and Raza. Shaheen scored 1 off 3, while Raza scored 22 off 16 & Wiese 24 off 9. They took the score to 177. It's not mandatory that if you are captain you have to come out to bat," Akram said on a local sports channel.

"Observe the situation and whether there are better players and hitters in the dugout. If Shaheen had done that maybe they would have made 190," he further added.

After enduring criticism from Akram, the left-arm pacer responded emphatically on the field. Afridi pulled off a shush celebration, silencing his critics, after scoring his second fifty in his PSL career.

Despite Qalandars' struggles in the ongoing season, Afridi's bowling has been consistent. However, his decisions as captain, particularly his choice to promote himself up the batting order, have sparked debate.

It is worth noting that in the match against Gladiators, Afridi came to bat at No.5 and smashed a quickfire 55 off just 34 balls, helping his team post a competitive total of 166-4. Despite his heroics, Qalandars fell short as Gladiators secured a six-wicket victory, thanks to brilliant innings from Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Wasim Jr.
