Shaheens concerned about lack of preparation ahead of New Zealand series

Pakistan Shaheens find themselves in a precarious situation due to their lack of preparation time ahead of New Zealand series.

The Shaheens are currently touring New Zealand with the senior side, who can also play for the national side if needed, and will play their first four-day match, starting on December 10, in Queenstown.

Bearing in mind the Covid-19 testing, where all the players have to return negative tests before they can be allowed to train, there are still question marks about whether the team will be in a position to participate in this match or not.

According to sources, players continue to face mental health issues and are eager to get back on the field. They are tired of watching movies and highlights of old matches.

After the fourth Test, all those who will continue to return negative tests and subject to final approval from the New Zealand Health Ministry are expected to be able to train for the remainder of their time in the managed isolation.

It must be noted that, so far, eight Pakistan players have tested positive for Covid-19 since their arrival in New Zealand.

Off the eight positives, two have been deemed to be “historic” (not infectious) and, as such, they are now observing the isolation period on the same floor as the other members of the squad who have tested negative.

The Pakistan men’s national team is scheduled to play three T20Is on December 18, 20 and 22, and the ICC World Test Championship fixtures are scheduled to be held in Mount Maunganui and Christchurch on December 26-30 and January 3-7, respectively.
