Former cricketer, Shahid Afridi has given his support to Shadab Khan, who has been announced as the captain for the upcoming Afghanistan series.
Chief Selector, Haroon Rasheed, announced the squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan on Monday. The series will be starting on Friday, 24th March.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam, along with Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi have been rested for the series.
Regarding the change of captaincy, Shahid cleared his stance that he never lobbied to make Shaheen the captain.
While talking on a local cricket show, he said: "I am not even remotely related to the cricket board. I suggested Shaheen not to take up franchise captaincy either in PSL, let alone national team's captaincy."
"Secondly, the decision taken by the board is wise and suits well according to seniority. In the absence of Babar, the role befittingly goes to Shadab, as he's been serving as vice-captain for quite a while now. I am well pleased with the decision," he added.
Earlier this year, the Management Committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), headed by Chairman Najam Sethi, had appointed Shahid Afridi as the interim Chief Selector of the men’s cricket team for the home series against New Zealand.
