Shahid Afridi has been helpful despite not being with Multan squad: Rizwan

Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan revealed that veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi has been helping the team behind the scenes despite missing out from action in the Abu Dhabi leg of HBL PSL 6 due to injury.

While speaking in a virtual press conference on Wednesday, Rizwan heaped praise on all-rounder for being a great example for younger players in the squad.

“We have missed Shahid Afridi a lot. He is a brave cricketer and a great example for youngsters. He shares his advise before every match. He is still part of our team and has been helpful despite not being with the squad,” said Rizwan.

Afridi, while replying to former Multan Sultans’ co-owner Ali Tareen on Twitter, said that he is backing is team to do well against Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL final on Thursday.

“Yes Ali missing my teammates and really wish to be there in Abu Dhabi. But I'm sure our Multan Sultans would play quality cricket and bring us all immense joy and reasons to celebrate on Thursday,” tweeted Afridi.

Rizwan is also wary of Zalmi’s in-form opener Hazratullah Zazai, who has scored three fifties in this season.

“When you come across a player, you have a plan for him. But you have to look at the whole team as well. If Zazai gets out early, so then there are other experienced players well for example Shoaib Malik, we have to come up with a strategy for every individual. I’m hopeful that we will put in our effort, but the planning that we have cannot be shared as you know. Tomorrow is the final and we will put in our complete effort,” he said.
