Shahid Afridi to unearth Pakistan's next generation of power-hitters

Former Test captain, Shahid Afridi, met Chairman of the PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf on Friday at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore

During the meeting, Afridi conveyed his keen interest in scouting talent at the junior level. He outlined plans to present a comprehensive proposal to the board the following week, outlining the details of his initiative.

Afridi is set to play a pivotal role at the National Cricket Academy, where he will be accompanied by a team of handpicked coaches, trainers, and other personnel. National trials will be conducted to identify promising cricketers across the country. Those selected will undergo training at the academy, focusing on contemporary cricket demands such as power-hitting and various other facets of the game.

To ensure continuous development, training camps will be established at different intervals, keeping players engaged and refining their skills. Moreover, they will also be taught to converse in English.

The former all-rounder envisions that, with his dedicated team, they will unearth exceptional cricketing talent within the nation. The objective is not only to identify skilled players but also to nurture and prepare them for potential representation in the Pakistan national team.

Zaka Ashraf has pledged unwavering support to Afridi's initiative. Although the decision is pending final approval, it is anticipated that Afridi will assume a role akin to that of a Director within the PCB. This commitment would necessitate Afridi's departure from his current engagements, including television commitments, as he dedicates himself entirely to the service of the PCB.
