Shahid Afridi urges full-throttle preparation for T20 World Cup 2024

Former captain Shahid Afridi has emphasized that preparations should be made in full swing for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Speaking to media in Karachi, Afridi stated that considering only the match against India as a competition is not correct as many other good matches are expected. He also added that no changes should be made in the team combination and there should only be one captain for the national team in every format.

Moreover, he mentioned that the World Cup is a test for many players and senior players will be responsible. He also added that only one captain should be made for the Pakistan team to end the saga of fighting on this issue and there should not be separate leadership for each format while the concept of vice-captaincy is also not correct.

Furthermore, Afridi also asserted that Pakistan cricket team has a long-standing problem of incomplete fielding but apart from fielding, attention should also be paid to bowling and batting. Afridi also added that Pakistan should have achieved success in the Test series against Australia and the T20 series against New Zealand but they did not appear as a unit in these matches.

Afridi also mentioned that there is a lot of talent in new players like Azam Khan and Saim Ayub and they are the future of the national team. Young players included in the central contracts should be given time while proper planning should be made regarding their playing opportunities. It should not be such that if players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan or Shaheen Afridi are given rest opportunity, then there is no alternative for them, the bench of the national team needs to be strengthened so that a good alternative player is available when needed.

Lastly Afridi supported Hafeez and said that he has played a lot of cricket and he should be given time as cricket director, if you think Hafeez will fix everything in one series, that's not possible.
