Sharjah Cricket Stadium to achieve a milestone today

The iconic cricket stadium of Sharjah will reach a special milestone today as it prepares to host a contest between Pakistan and Hong Kong.

The match will determine the final team to be included in the Super 4 of the T20 Asia Cup as India, and Afghanistan had already secured their place in the Super 4s.  Both teams registered victories in their opening matches and remain unbeaten.

Sri Lanka came on the verge of being knocked out as Bangladesh lost the match in the final over the match. The fixture today will determine the fourth team to be included in the Super 4s.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host its 280th international match today and is now tied with Sydney Cricket Ground, which has also hosted 280 international games since 1982.

The breakdown of 279 international matches is as follows:

  • ODIs — 244
  • T20Is — 26
  • Tests — 9

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan hosted Sri Lanka for the first time in an ODI at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on April 6, 1984.
