South African pacer Dale Steyn feels for Pakistan’s Haris Rauf after the latter was dropped from the Melbourne Stars squad due to former’s arrival, despite a dream start to the Big Bash League (BBL).

Steyn, who was not available for the first two matches in the BBL, has recovered from the side strain after getting injured during the Mzansi Super League (MSL).

Rauf, who replaced the injured the South African pacer, claimed seven wickets in just two matches with an economy rate of 5.87. His fifer against the Hobart Hurricanes caught the attention of fans around the world due to his sheer pace and control.

While talking to Seven Sport, Steyn jokingly said that his Melbourne teammates are expecting him to live up to Rauf’s performance.

“I feel for him. He was amazing and bowled so well. He has bowled absolute wheels. I have pretty big shoes to fill in some sense,” said Steyn. “Everyone is joking and saying to me that they are not expecting much, but 5 wickets for 13 in 4 overs and no boundaries would be a great start.”

“What a player and well done to him. I don’t know what his plans are but he can hang around and learn a little bit more and hopefully take his game from strength to strength,” he added.

The 36-year-old pacer looks set to make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut against the Adelaide Strikers on Friday.
