Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez is currently facing a prolonged delay in receiving dues owed to him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), despite several months passing since his short stint.
Hafeez, who was appointed as the national team's director under Zaka Ashraf's chairmanship of the PCB management committee, continues to await the dues yet to be disbursed by the board.
According to the details, Hafeez, who also took on the role of head coach during the tours of Australia and New Zealand, came under scrutiny when the national team, led by Shan Masood, suffered defeats in all three test matches against the Kangaroos. The T20 series added to the disappointment, with Shaheen Afridi-led Men in Green losing the five-match series 4-1 against the Blackcaps.
The change in leadership from Zaka Ashraf to Mohsin Naqvi marked a shift in the PCB's coaching approach, favoring the hiring of foreign coaches.
This change also raised questions about Hafeez's role, leading to the PCB announcing on social media their decision to part ways with him as team director. This move prematurely ended his initial four-year term after only two months.
With the New Zealand cricket team's tour to Pakistan on the horizon, the PCB's indecision on the coaching front remains conspicuous. Despite reaching out to several international cricketing figures, the board has faced rejections, leaving the position vacant.
According to sources, Hafeez has not received his contracted payment, which includes the daily allowance for the tours of Australia and New Zealand. Efforts to address this issue have been hindered by the busy schedule of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, resulting in Hafeez's unsuccessful attempt to meet and discuss the matter. Despite his efforts, upon returning to the country, Hafeez was unable to meet with Mohsin Naqvi. Consequently, the decision to terminate his position became apparent.
The former skipper will transition to a role as an expert analyst on local TV programs, refraining from openly discussing his experiences with the PCB thus far.
