He also recognized the impressive form of Iftikhar Ahmed, who has been performing well, and expressed his hope that Ahmed continues to excel through his performance.
"It's up to the fans to decide whether I'm needed in the team's middle order or not," Akmal said.
"Iftikhar Ahmed is doing well, and I hope he continues to play in the same manner," he added.
The 33-year-old has made a bold prediction regarding the outcome of next month's two-match Test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
"The players who have been selected have been performing well consistently. They are also putting in the hard yards during the training camp. I think, despite the tough conditions, Pakistan will win the series," he concluded.
