Multan Sultans' leg-spinner, Usama Mir, currently excelling in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9, attributes his success to refining his bowling action.
Adapting his action for ODIs affected his World Cup performance, impacting his overall confidence. Learning from mistakes, he identified and corrected errors. The leg-spinner's resilience and commitment to improvement have paid off, as he currently stands as the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing PSL season, having secured an impressive tally of 18 wickets.
“When ODIs came, I had to adjust my action so I would be able to bowl slow balls, I think that affected my performance in the World Cup,” Mir said.
“Yes, the performance at the World Cup affected my confidence but I learned from my mistakes.
“I couldn’t figure out the mistakes I was committing and I kept on repeating them. After some time, I realised that I wasn’t completing my action, which I fixed,” he added.
Usama also highlighted the significance of dismissing Babar Azam, emphasizing Babar's challenging gameplay.
“I have taken 18 wickets in the PSL so far but taking Babar Azam’s wicket was by far the best. The way he[Babar] plays, it looks like he wouldn’t get out by anyone,” Mir said.
Confident about Multan Sultans' ongoing season, he expressed determination to secure the championship after consecutive final losses.
“We are hopeful that we will maintain the same momentum in the remaining PSL matches. We lost two successive finals, we will become champions this time,” he concluded.
