WATCH: Azam, Shafiq break 47-year-old record

Pakistan’s batsmen Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq broke a 47-year-old record by scoring the highest partnership for the Men in Green in Australia in first-class cricket, after the duo accumulated 276 runs before the end of the first day of the three-day practice match against Australia A on Monday.

The prolific batsmen outscored the previous highest partnership of 233 runs between batsmen Talat Ali and Majid Khan against Queensland in 1972.

Azam and Shafiq scored centuries which helped Pakistan reach 336 for 3 against Australia A in Perth.

Both Azam (157*) and Shafiq (119*) remained unbeaten at the end of day's play as Pakistan enjoyed a fine day with the bat.

The form of these two batsmen could be a major boost for a Pakistan side that is trying to bounce back in the upcoming two-match Test series, after a dismal two-nil Twenty20 International (T20I) series defeat against Australia.
