Pakistan top-order batsman Babar Azam has carried his prolific form to the 2019 Vitality T20 Blast, where the number one ranked batsman in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) is climbing the batting charts.
Azam is currently the leading run-scorer in the competition with 220 runs in four matches. However, despite scoring back to back fifties in his last 2 games, both his knocks have ended up on the losing side.
Babar continues to make history
The 24-year-old scored an unbeaten 95 from 61 balls on Friday, as his side set Hampshire a target of 173 runs. The game eventually went into the final over before Hampshire completed the chase with three balls to spare.
Azam was again among the runs on Sunday against Sussex, as he scored another fifty while chasing a target of 185. Right-handed batsman eventually fell in the 18th over, after scoring 83 runs from 50 balls, while Somerset fell short of the target by 13 runs.
Babar Azam was initially signed by Somerset only for the T20 competition. However, the county on Sunday announced that the 24-year-old will also be available to play in their County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on August 18.
