Australia opener David Warner was livid when Australia were penalised five runs against New Zealand during the fourth day of the third and final Test in Sydney.

There was drama late in the Australian innings when Warner was given an official warning by umpire Aleem Dar for running down the middle of the pitch while scampering for a single. It resulted in five penalty runs being added to New Zealand's first innings total of 251, meaning their target was revised down from 421 to 416.

Two balls earlier, Dar had already warned top-order batsman Marnus Labuschagne for running on the middle of the pitch.

Warner, who earlier completed his 24th Test century, was left shocked by Dar’s decision and questioned the penalty.

 “For what. What am I doing wrong?” Warner asked Dar.

Australia went on to complete a crushing 279-run victory over New Zealand to sweep the three-Test series.
