Wickets more important than economy rate: Shadab

Pakistan leg-spinner Shadab Khan believes that his role in the side, especially in limited-overs cricket, is to pick up wickets rather than stemming the flow of runs.

Shadab, who has featured in five Tests, 41 One-day Internationals (ODIs) and 32 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), considers himself as an attacking bowling option for the Men in Green.

"Cricket has changed now, even if you get 3/50 it can be good for the team, I am an attacking option for the team so I try to get the opposition out,” said Shadab during a press conference at the National Stadium in Karachi.

The 20-year-old was also excited about the prospect of featuring in a home ODI series for the first time in his brief international career.

"Every player wishes to play in front of his home crowd. I'm feeling good about making my ODI home debut, on Monday. I hope I can perform well in front of the home crowd," he said. "Karachi's pitches are generally a little helpful for the spinners but it's been raining and we haven't seen the pitch.”

The Mianwali-born is also keen on improving his batting so that he can turn himself into a proper all-rounder.

"If I get a chance, I hope I don't even get out. I play as an all-rounder so whenever I am needed with the bat, I try to do well and I also wish to make runs if I get a chance to bat," he said.

He also appreciated the Sri Lankan side for touring Pakistan and the impact it would have on the youngsters in the country.

"It's encouraging for us as a nation to see Sri Lanka coming, especially for youngsters because we never saw any international team coming here for ODIs before. It's a great opportunity," he said.
