Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman shared his disappointed after missing out on a hundred in the second ODI against New Zealand.
Zaman returned to form with a run-a-ball 88 for his seventh fifty to guide Pakistan to the 210-run target for the loss of four wickets in 40.3 overs — helping Pakistan square the three-match series.
While talking to the media after the match, Zaman revealed his satisfaction after returning to form following a lean patch, but also expressed disappointment after failing to convert it into a big one.
"Yes, of course I’m disappointed but the fact is that they have beaten us a few times so it was good to beat them and also very happy that we levelled the series," Zaman said in the post-match press conference.
The left-handed opener added that lack of runs was affecting his level of confidence.
"This is cricket and ups and downs are part of it, sometimes you make 100 and other times you don’t,” he said. "Obviously, when you do not score runs in 2-3 games at this level, then your confidence is affected.”
Zaman said that he approached the game in a manner similar to previous matches.
"I did not do too much different from how I usually play but our plan was to survive the first 6-7 overs, even if we didn’t score that many runs," he said.
The 28-year-old also highlighted the importance of spending time at the wicket by saying: "The main issue was that I was not sticking around for long because when you stay on the crease for long, even the weak areas become your strong points."
Zaman also showed optimism that the team will secure the ODI series by winning the third and final ODI on Sunday in Dubai.
"This victory has given a lot of confidence to our team and all the players are feeling very positive,” he said. "It is our hope that we will win this series 2-1."
