Chopra points out that India does not have many ODIs left to play before the tournament, which could complicate their preparation and strategy
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that India will have a lot to think about before the Champions Trophy 2025, which will be hosted by Pakistan in February-March.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra points out that India does not have many ODIs left to play before the tournament, which could complicate their preparation and strategy.
The first ODI match between Sri Lanka and India ended in a dramatic tie, despite India being in the driver's seat for most of the game. Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka's late heroics, claiming the last two Indian wickets off successive balls, ensured the match ended in a draw, showcasing the unpredictable nature of cricket.
Chopra emphasized the urgency for India to refine their strategy before the Champions Trophy. He highlighted the limited number of ODIs left for the team, underscoring the importance of making the most out of these matches.
"India will have a lot to think. There are only five ODIs left before the Champions Trophy (2025). Two here and three will be against England in February (2025). So, we can't do much here," Chopra said.
He further expressed concern about the series against Sri Lanka, suggesting that if Sri Lanka wins even one of the remaining matches, the series could end in a tie.
"India have to think how they are playing. The first match is already tied and it is possible that the series ends in a tie as well. India will need to win both the games now to win the series," he said.
India's remaining ODIs, including the two against Sri Lanka and three against England, will be crucial for finalizing their strategy and squad for the Champions Trophy. Chopra noted that the team's inability to chase down a relatively simple target in the first ODI would likely concern the new coach, Gautam Gambhir, and the rest of the team management.
