Pakistan cricket team’s interim head coach, Aaqib Javed, has clarified the selection of all-rounder Faheem Ashraf in the national squad.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Aaqib Javed stated that Faheem Ashraf was included because he can contribute with both pace and batting.

"Faheem Ashraf is an all-rounder and a good option for us. He can bowl with pace and also bat, making him a valuable choice that we can utilize when needed," Aaqib explained.

He further emphasized the importance of match scenarios in player development, saying, "Batting on the center pitch provides more benefits compared to practice in the nets. Players gain better experience from match situations."

Reflecting on recent performances, Aaqib noted that the pitches in Australia were challenging at the start of the season. However, he expressed optimism that the upcoming tri-series before the Champions Trophy would be highly beneficial.

Discussing team composition, he highlighted that Pakistan usually plays with a single specialist spinner in the playing XI. "If an injury occurs, it is easier to replace a spinner. Among our top seven batters, we already have a spin option," he said.

The interim head coach also hinted that the current squad is likely to remain unchanged for the tournament. "In my opinion, this will be the final squad. With Abrar Ahmed in the team, it is unlikely that we will go with two spinners. We also considered Aamer Jamal, but he has not played many ODIs," he explained.

Aaqib Javed believes that playing in home conditions will be an advantage for Pakistan. Commenting on the evolving nature of the game, he remarked, "Cricket has become much faster. In T20s, teams easily score 200 runs, so in ODIs, reaching 300 should not be difficult and should be a standard target."
Addressing individual players, he mentioned that Sufiyan Muqeem has only played one ODI match, while Khushdil Shah was already in discussions before the Australia tour. "He performs well in these conditions. In the absence of Saim Ayub, we had to consider Khushdil Shah," he added.

Aaqib also stressed the importance of team balance over player comebacks. "We focus on building the right combination rather than considering how long a player has been away. Haseebullah got injured in South Africa, and we need a backup wicketkeeper due to concussion protocols," he explained.

Regarding India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, Aaqib remarked, "The Indian team should be concerned about Bumrah. He is their key player."

He concluded by praising the competitiveness of the Champions Trophy, stating, "The beauty of this tournament is that all teams are equally strong."
