After South Africa's defeat to India in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday, former South African skipper AB de Villiers took to social media on Sunday to console the Proteas team, encouraging them to keep their spirits high.

"Hold your heads high, @ProteasMenCSA. You went further than any SA team. You are all heroes. The best is yet to come. Congratulations to India," de Villiers wrote on X.

Former Proteas pacer Dale Steyn expressed his disappointment with a heartfelt post: “F**k this is tough. Heart breaking.”

Meanwhile, former South African captain Graeme Smith praised Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, writing, "Bumrah unbelievable, congrats India."

The Proteas' quest for an ICC title continues. In contrast, India ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought, claiming their first title since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
