AB de Villiers emphasized Babar's prowess as a versatile batsman who has consistently excelled in all formats of the game
Former South African cricketer, AB de Villiers, expressed his admiration for Babar Azam ahead of the all-important clash between India and Pakistan on Saturday in Asia Cup 2023.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, South African legend, known for his own extraordinary cricketing prowess, didn't hold back his praise for Azam, dubbing him one of the best players the cricketing world has ever witnessed.
"I love talking about Babar Azam because he is one of the best players we have ever seen play this game and not just now. He is a huge rock in the Pakistan batting order. If India wants to keep Pakistan quiet, this is the guy to dismiss early because he keeps the batting lineup together and acts as a glue in the Pakistan middle-order," he said.
De Villiers further emphasized Babar's prowess as a versatile batsman who has consistently excelled in all formats of the game.
He noted that Pakistan's success in Asia Cup and 2023 World Cup would largely depend on the 28-year-old's performance, further highlighting the immense expectations placed on the talented cricketer's shoulders.
"I met him first when he [Babar] was very young but quickly realized that this guy is here to stay. He has hurt bowling attacks all around the world and in all formats. He is a fantastic player and Pakistan need him in form for the Asia Cup and most importantly, for the World Cup," he concluded.
