Pakistan opening batsman Abid Ali has been diagnosed with a case of "acute coronary syndrome" on Tuesday after complaining of chest pain during a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Central Punjab.

The Punjab batter, while batting on the final day of the match, complained about chest pain and significant discomfort. He was then taken to the hospital for an electrocardiogram (ECG).

Providing confirmation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Abid left the ground while he was unbeaten on 61 due to chest pain.

"He was taken immediately to a cardiac hospital where he was diagnosed as a case of acute coronary syndrome. He is under the care of the consultant cardiologist who is liaising with the PCB medical team regarding further treatment," the cricket board said.

"He is under the care of Consultant Cardiologist who is liaising with PCB medical team regarding further treatment. He is currently stable. It is requested to respect his and the family’s privacy at this time. More details will be provided in due course," concluded the statement from the PCB.

Abid Ali has enjoyed a stellar run in Test cricket in 2021 as he piled close to 700 runs at an average of 49.64. However, this development might hinder his progress as a cricketer but it remains to be seen how serious the precautions will be.
