Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) CEO Naseeb Khan confirmed the news
Afghanistan star all-rounder Mohammad Nabi is set to retire from One-Day Internationals (ODIs) following the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) CEO Naseeb Khan confirmed the news, acknowledging Nabi’s intent to conclude his ODI career while continuing in T20 Internationals.
The 39-year-old veteran has been instrumental in Afghanistan’s cricketing journey, playing 165 ODIs, scoring 3,549 runs at an average of 27.3, and claiming 171 wickets. Known for his all-round skills, Nabi’s departure from the ODI format will mark the end of an era for Afghanistan cricket.
"Yes, Nabi is retiring from ODIs after the Champions Trophy," said Naseeb Khan. "He informed the board a few months ago of his intention, and we fully support his decision. After the Champions Trophy, he plans to continue in T20 cricket, and we’re optimistic about his impact there."
As Afghanistan prepares for Nabi’s ODI farewell, the team is currently competing in an ODI series against Bangladesh in Sharjah. In the first ODI on November 6, Afghanistan registered a commanding 92-run victory, setting the stage for the second match on November 9. Afghanistan will aim to secure the series, while Bangladesh hopes to level it in the Sharjah showdown.
