Afghanistan secured their first-ever ODI victory over South Africa, defeating the Proteas by six wickets in the opening match of their three-game series.

The match was a tale of two halves. South Africa's batting lineup crumbled under pressure, losing seven wickets for just 36 runs in the first 10 overs. Wiaan Mulder's valiant half-century helped them reach a total of 106.

Afghanistan's chase was not without its challenges. They lost early wickets, but Gulbadin Naib and Azmatullah Omarzai steadied the ship and guided their team to victory. Naib's unbeaten 34 off 26 balls proved to be the match-winning innings.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Afghanistan, who have now defeated every full-member cricket nation except India.

Brief scores: South Africa 106 in 33.3 overs (Wiaan Mulder 52; Fazalhaq Farooqi 4/35, Allah Ghazanfar 3/20)

Afghanistan 107/4 in 26 overs (Gulbadin Naib 34*; Bjorn Fortuin 2/22)
