Pakistan's cricket team is gearing up for a crucial five-match ODI series against New Zealand. As the players prepare for the matches, Imam ul Haq, one of the team's star batsmen, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming series and the significance of team victory over individual rankings.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Imam said that cricket was a team game, and the ultimate goal should be to win matches as a unit and lift the team's rankings.
“If we beat New Zealand by a margin of 5-0, our team would move to number one in ICC ODI team rankings. I have always thought that it’s a team game. I am on third in individual batting rankings and Babar is at number one, but our team is not on number one spot, which is not a good thing,” Imam said.
The left-hand opener added that if Pakistan were to beat New Zealand by a margin of 5-0, it would not only propel them to the number one spot in the ICC ODI team rankings but also boost the team's collective confidence.
“If we win the series by 5-0, the collective confidence that we will get, will be more important than personal records,” he added.
