Akram pays tribute to Jones after taking over as Kings’ interim head coach

Pakistan bowling great Wasim Akram will take over as the interim head coach of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, Karachi Kings, for the playoffs of season five, which are scheduled to take place later this month.  

Kings Head Coach Dean Jones passed away after a sudden heart attack last month in Mumbai. He was part of the Star Sports commentary panel for the ongoing Indian Premier League.

The Australian coached the PSL franchise, Islamabad United, which won the title in 2016 and 2018. He was also the head coach of Karachi Kings in the fifth edition of PSL.

“I am not taking Jones’s place as Kings’ head coach. I mean he will be missed throughout and we will leave his seat in our dressing room with his name,” Akram said in a live video conference on YouTube with Cricslab.

Akram also praised Jones’ support for Pakistan cricket and his coaching credentials.

“He was a great buddy of mine. I know how he advocated for Pakistan across the world. He talked about Pakistan’s cricket, food, talent and hospitality everywhere in the world,” he said.

“I believe he was a great human being and as a coach he was brilliant. No coach in this world can take his place ever,” he concluded.

The remaining four matches of Pakistan’s marquee event, will be played in Karachi on November 14, 15 and 17.
