In a surprising twist, Pakistan's 2-1 Test series victory over England wasn't solely the work of former players like Aaqib Javed. Former umpire Aleem Dar, known for his integrity and vast cricketing insight, played a pivotal role, offering advice on pitch preparation and team selection that helped Pakistan secure a long-awaited home-ground victory after nearly four years.

Aleem was appointed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee, marking the first time a retired umpire had taken on such a role. Alongside former players Aaqib Javed and Azhar Ali, Dar joined the selection team after Pakistan’s initial loss to England in Multan. Although some criticized the move, Dar’s global experience and keen understanding of conditions proved instrumental.

After Pakistan's defeat in Multan, Dar advised the selection committee on an unconventional strategy: reusing the same pitch for the second Test, a rare decision in Test cricket. This suggestion, combined with Aaqib Javed's work alongside chief curator Tony Hemming, resulted in a pitch that suited Pakistan’s approach.

The efforts paid off in the second Test, where Pakistan evened the series. Preparations for the third Test in Rawalpindi saw international media observe peculiar tactics, with large heaters and fans aimed at the pitch. Behind closed doors, Dar and Javed fine-tuned the pitch to create conditions that would favor Pakistan's spinners. By the match’s start, the pitch unexpectedly began to turn early, and spinners Noman Ali and Sajid Khan took full advantage, delivering remarkable performances that led to a dominant nine-wicket victory.

Reflecting on his journey, Aleem Dar stated, "For nearly 25 years, umpiring has been my life, allowing me to witness unforgettable matches featuring the best players of our time."
