Pakistani singer Ali Zafar has said that it is important to maintain the quality of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) anthem, if you are keen on making a new one every year.

Zafar’s own version of HBL PSL anthem ‘Mela Loot Liya’, which was released after fans criticised the official anthem for this season, has garnered more than five million views on YouTube in just over five days.

It must be noted that it took PSL’s official anthem ‘Tayyar Hain’ over a month to amass similar number of views on the video-sharing platform.

“I think if you can make a good anthem every year, you should go for it because people look forward to it. Anthem is a much-awaited thing among the fans and it drives their interest,” said Zafar while talking in an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan. “The only challenge is whether you can come up with something which can satisfy people.”

“My friend told that me that even though you are not officially part of the PSL this year but you are still very much in the conversation. I feel I’m blessed to have such a loyal fan following,” he added.

The 39-year-old also thanked his fans for the support which enabled him to make this song in such a short span of time.

“I made that song in a week’s time which is a very difficult thing but the credit for this goes to my fans that encouraged me to pull this off,” he said. “This was a gift for my fans which is why I had stated that this video is for the people and by the people.”

Zafar also hinted at playing a role in biopic of a cricketer as discussions had already begun in this regard.

“Discussions are going on about a possible biopic on a cricketer with me playing the role. It seems like a very interesting project,” he said.

“It might be him [Shoaib Akhtar],” he added while talking about a YouTube video he made with the former Pakistan speedster.
