Pakistan’s former cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja, in a video on the YouTube channel Cricket Bazz on Thursday, claimed that pacer Mohammad Amir should not have compared himself with India’s pacer Jasprit Bumrah as he had done in a recent interview with CricketPakistan.com.pk.
The 58-year-old believed that Amir’s retirement gave the impression that he was bigger than the sport itself.
“I think Amir giving this reference is a bit wrong because he left the field himself at the age of 26 or 27. Whatever the problems he had but I think the impression that is given is that I am bigger than this sport and if you will not change this I will not come back,” Raja said.
“Secondly, I think it might be right the talent you have should be better than the previous 7 to 8 months. I cannot see that progress. If a bowler’s line and direction are not correct so the same problem is in the next season as well. Those who have temperament issues will have those issues going ahead as well. I think your skill improvement should be better in every next season,” he added.

The former cricketer also talked about the postponed Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six and how difficult it was to carry out the tournament during a pandemic.
“It was difficult to handle this tournament amid Covid-19. They will learn from their mistakes and I thought they got complacent because the bilateral series went well. They had to gather a huge number of people and everyone had to follow the protocols. Self-policing has been talked about and I completely agree with it because if you will survive then the other will survive,” he said.
“There were 70 to 80 people in our television crew but not a single case came positive. Most of them were foreigners and for security reasons and covid reasons they were not allowed to leave the hotel. I just wanted one thing that if the cricket board set aside 2 to 3 million dollars. This could have been used to book the entire hotel and quarantine could have been better so I think this was the slip from the cricket board,” he added.
