South African all-rounder Annerie Dercksen has been named the ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year for 2024. The 23-year-old impressed fans and experts with her performances across all formats, solidifying her place as one of cricket’s brightest young talents.

Dercksen made her international debut in January 2023 during a T20I triangular series featuring India and West Indies. While her first year was about gaining experience, 2024 saw her deliver consistently with both bat and ball.

Dercksen scored 161 runs and took five wickets in 17 T20Is, maintaining an impressive average of 32.2. One of her standout moments came during South Africa’s win against Sri Lanka in March, where her bowling figures of 2/5 showcased her all-round abilities.

Her batting also shone during the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, where South Africa reached the final before losing to New Zealand. She played a crucial role in stabilizing the middle order and helping the team recover from difficult situations.

In ODIs, Dercksen made an impact with both bat and ball, scoring 70 runs and taking six wickets in four matches. Her best bowling performance came against England, where she picked up 3/16 in the first ODI.

In Test cricket, she scored 60 runs in two matches, including a key knock of 41 during a tough game against India in Bloemfontein.

One of Dercksen’s most memorable performances came in a T20I series decider against Pakistan before the T20 World Cup. Chasing 154, South Africa faced early setbacks, but Dercksen’s explosive 44* off 23 balls turned the game around. Her innings, featuring six fours and two sixes, earned her the Player of the Match award.

Dercksen’s performances in 2024 have established her as a dependable all-rounder for South Africa. Whether rescuing her team with the bat or delivering key wickets, she has proven her worth on the international stage.
