England all-rounder David Willey has withdrawn from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, citing personal reasons. Willey, who had initially opted out of the beginning of this year's IPL, has now decided to pull out of the entire tournament.
The 34-year-old left-arm quick was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for his base price of INR 2 crore during last year's mini-auction in Dubai. To fill his place in the squad, LSG has drafted in fast bowler Matt Henry.
Willey's decision comes after a busy schedule, having played for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Multan Sultans in the ILT20 and the Pakistan Super League (PSL), respectively. He had also participated in the World Cup held in India prior to joining the IPL.
Previously, England's opening batter, Jason Roy, who was supposed to represent Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024, had also opted out due to personal reasons. Roy had previously withdrawn from IPL 2020 while playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) and IPL 2022 with the Gujarat Titans (GT).
