Arshdeep was India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is in 2024, claiming an impressive 36 wickets in just 18 matches
India’s Arshdeep Singh has been named the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, receiving recognition for his exceptional performances in 2024. The award celebrates his vital contributions to India's success, particularly during their T20 World Cup victory in the Caribbean and USA.
The 25-year-old left-arm pacer has emerged as one of the most reliable bowlers in the shortest format, excelling in both the powerplay and death overs. Since his international debut in 2022, Arshdeep has shown promise, and 2024 marked his breakthrough year, cementing his status as one of the top T20I bowlers in the world.
Arshdeep was India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is in 2024, claiming an impressive 36 wickets in just 18 matches. His contributions were crucial to India’s World Cup triumph, where he played a key role in their bowling attack.
Although several players took more wickets than Arshdeep in 2024, including Usman Najeeb (Saudi Arabia), Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka), Junaid Siddique (UAE), and Ehsan Khan (Hong Kong), none managed to achieve his remarkable average of 15.31, and he maintained a solid economy rate of 7.49.
One of Arshdeep's standout performances came against the USA in New York during the T20 World Cup, where he delivered outstanding figures of 4/9 in four overs. However, his most significant contribution came in the World Cup Final in Barbados. Arshdeep played a crucial role in helping India defend a total of 176, finishing with figures of 2/20 from four overs.
In the final, he struck early by dismissing South African captain Aiden Markram in the powerplay and later removed Quinton de Kock during the middle overs. In the death overs, when South Africa needed 20 runs from 12 balls, Arshdeep bowled a superb over, conceding just four runs, setting up Hardik Pandya to successfully defend the total in the final over.
