Arthur takes cheeky dig at Pakistan team ahead of Sri Lanka Tests

Former Pakistan Head Coach Mickey Arthur took a cheeky dig at the Men in Green, ahead of their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in front of their home crowds.  

Arthur, who coached Pakistan between 2016 and 2019, is likely to set foot on Pakistan soil once again but this time as the head coach of the visiting Islanders.  

Pakistan’s two-nil series defeat continued their appalling record in Australia, where they have now crashed in 14 consecutive Tests.

“I will see you very soon and tell those [Pakistan] batsmen to get their front pads out of the way,” Arthur made a tongue-in-cheek comment while speaking to Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali, during a television show, after the conclusion of the day-night Test between Pakistan and Australia in Adelaide on Monday.

The visitors crashed to an innings and 48 runs defeat in the second Test at Adelaide, following an innings and five run loss in Brisbane.

It must be noted that, earlier, Arthur had been released from his short-term Twenty20 contract with New Zealand side Central Districts to pursue another job, bearing in mind that Sri Lanka Cricket were in talks with Arthur to take over the national side.

Disappointment for Azhar's team will soon turn into an unfamiliar joy when they play Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi and Karachi later this month, the first Tests in Pakistan since militants attacked a bus convoy carrying the Sri Lanka team in Lahore in 2009.

The first Test will be played at the Pindi Cricket Stadium from December 11-15, while the second Test will be held at the National Stadium from December 19-23.
