Pakistan team director believes that when all players work together selflessly, the Men in Green can become a formidable force
Pakistan team director, Mickey Arthur, has emphasized the importance of prioritizing the team over individual achievements.
He firmly believes that when all players work together selflessly, the Men in Green can become a formidable force.
“It has to be team first before individuals. That is something I am very tough on. If we get all the players working for team first, it is going to be so powerful. Those individual records will all be broken, but we need to have success as a team first,” Arthur said while speaking to a foreign sports journalist.
After being questioned regarding Pakistani players being accused of focusing on personal milestones, Arthur said that he is aware that players may be tempted to focus on their own statistics and personal milestones. However, he is determined to prevent such behavior from taking hold within the team.
The 55-year-old aims to instill a sense of commitment to the team's cause, a specific brand of cricket they want to play, and clear role clarity for each individual.
“It is not something that jumps out of you. It is something I want to make sure that doesn’t happen. I am going to challenge the guys on putting team first, on brand of cricket, on role clarity. A 40 from 18 balls is far more valuable than 70 from 60 balls at top, so we have to make sure that those little achievements down the order are recognized,” he concluded.
