Following India's disappointing 2-0 series loss to Sri Lanka, Indian captain Rohit Sharma emerged as the series' top run-scorer, amassing 157 runs. Despite the team's defeat, Rohit showcased his batting brilliance with an impressive strike rate of 141.44, the highest among all batters in the series.

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took notice of Rohit's remarkable performance and praised his fearless approach at the crease. Ashwin highlighted how Rohit, despite the challenging circumstances, played with confidence and intent.

"One thing that stood up for me in the Sri Lanka series was Rohit Sharma's batting once again. No matter what is happening, no fear, Rohit means 'I am going to hit'. As a batter, Rohit is par excellence at this point of time," Ashwin said.

Ashwin, who led the Dindigul Dragons to victory in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024, also praised Rohit's versatility at the crease. He pointed out that Rohit's ability to play a wide range of shots against both spinners and pacers was crucial to his success on the difficult batting surface at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

"Rohit Sharma plays square, sweeps - tries reverse sweeps, when he plays fast balls, he uses his feet to come down the track - he is creating options," he further added.

India won't play any ODIs until January next year when they host England for a three-match series. The team will look to improve their batting on slow pitches, similar to those they faced in Sri Lanka, as they prepare for the Champions Trophy in February.
