The Asia Cup 2023 is undergoing a significant change in its schedule as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is set to relocate six Super 4 matches from their originally planned location in Colombo to Hambantota. This decision stems from the anticipation of an extended period of rainfall in Colombo during the scheduled match dates.
The ACC is expected to announce this decision soon after closely monitoring weather forecasts, which indicated a high likelihood of rain disruptions in Colombo. Among these relocated matches is the highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India, which will now take place in Hambantota on September 10.
Furthermore, in acknowledgment of the unpredictable weather conditions, there is consideration for a reserve day for the Pakistan-India encounter. This precautionary measure is particularly warranted since their group-stage encounter was abandoned without a single ball being bowled in the second innings.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had previously voiced concerns regarding the weather-related challenges in Colombo to the ACC. The ACC, in response, has assured proper coordination and addressed these concerns to the best of their ability.
