The Australian pacers bowled India out for just 155 runs in their second innings, leaving them with no chance of chasing down Australia’s total of 340
Australia secured a commanding 184-run victory over India in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Monday, thanks to outstanding performances from Pat Cummins and Scott Boland. The Australian pacers bowled India out for just 155 runs in their second innings, leaving them with no chance of chasing down Australia’s total of 340.
India’s resistance ended in the final session of the last day when Mohammed Siraj was trapped by Nathan Lyon, sealing India’s collapse. Earlier, Australia posted 474 in their first innings, followed by 234 in their second innings, led by Marnus Labuschagne's 70 and Lyon’s 41. India, who scored 369 in their first innings, were unable to break Australia’s dominance. Boland and Cummins starred with the ball, taking three wickets each.
The match was filled with drama as India’s Jasprit Bumrah, continuing his exceptional form, took fifer in innings, including that of Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Sam Konstas, in a brilliant spell. However, the game shifted when Australia’s Labuschagne was dropped on 46 by Yashasvi Jaiswal in the gully, a costly mistake. Labuschagne and Cummins then added 57 runs, stabilizing Australia’s innings.
Despite strong bowling from Bumrah, who got the better of Sam Konstas, Australia extended their lead and India’s chances slipped away.
Australia’s lower-order contributions, including vital runs from Lyon and Cummins, ensured they set India a massive taret of 340 runs. The result leaves Australia on the verge of sealing the series, with one final Test to play in Sydney. India now faces an uphill battle to save the series and their spot in WTC final.
